Letting God Remove the Garbage of Our Lives

TRUE Healing = Letting God Remove the Garbage of Our Lives

On Facebook, I read an analogy which really illustrates why letting God remove the garbage of our lives is so important if we want true healing.

Jamie Whitaker shared this:

“Today I worked with a friend on a property whose former owners had used garbage as erosion control, with the result that beer cans and liquor bottled ended up in a small dry stream and under a layer of sand. We removed many bags of this rubbish, and re-dug the trenches leading to the drainage area, put down gravel, etc.

The whole situation illustrated many of our lives. We add things, without deliberately removing anything. We hope that the good will somehow crowd out the bad, or fill the void, that we feel. The rain water is washing soil away from the yard that has been walked on and driven on too much for the grass to grow good roots so as to hold the soil well. So whole bags of bottles and cans and such are thrown in the privilege area to hold back the water and sand from all running away. The habit of throwing trash there, gets out of hand, and too much ends up there; it looks awful. Some gets covered by sand washing over it; some blows around. They decide to set fire to it, because the trash now includes more than bottles and cans. The fire soldiers angrily and annoys the neighbors, making them apprehensive, but does not burn up all that is there. The storm washes some of the trash into others’ properties.

“We add things, without deliberately removing anything. We hope that the good will somehow crowd out the bad, or fill the void, that we feel.”

TRUE Healing = Letting God Remove the Garbage of Our Lives

It’s time to stop adding to the problems, medicating them with foreign substances and diversions, and co-operate with the needs of the area. Clean out the drains of trash and sand; maintain them monthly; reduce the traffic over the lawn grass, give the water places to run into the stream without carrying soil with it. In so many ways this is like our lives. When there is damage, loss, and baggage, instead of adding entertainment, stuff, more baggage, why not put up boundaries, develop discipline, seek healing, let go of things that are harmful, with God’s help? Adding the wrong things in order to feel okay for another hour, causes anger to smoldering, damage to spread to others UN-intentionally, and the problems to go deeper and more painful to remove. Its not too late! It’s fixable!! Stop adding without facing what’s there. Let go and go free!”
